Busy Few Days

 I never feel busy but I'm creating. I finished the little memorials for my mom and dad.

 They are beautiful, if I'm allowed to say that about my own work. 

I've also stumbled across a group in my own community making big papier mache puppets. So I reminded myself of my very limited comfort zone, and then drove over to the Friendship Park Community Center to help. I've been back three times and am now hoping making big papier mache heads goes on forever.

And, of course, there's September Fodder School. I have yet to watch any of the lessons from Yetunde Rodriguez, but I jumped into the stamp making this morning. I promised myself that I would watch the lessons before I went any further. 

 

Washi Egg Season

I spent an afternoon making washi eggs with my friend, Judy. It's become an annual tradition since she was the one who taught me this wonderful art form. Our day of egg pasting always gets me started on a washi egg binge.

Book, Art Day, and a Little Playtime

I finished a little accordion book for my cousin.i finally figured out what I wanted to do with the little Polaroids I took when we were dress shopping with her.Once again, I am attempting to add a video to my post...

 And...YAY! It worked!

Saturday, I had an art day with Lena and her niece, Sydney. We did some paper Weaving. We had a fantastic time.

 

Today, I didn't plan on much of anything, but I did sneak in and make some fodder and a card.

Swatches

 Everybody is swatching in preparation for Fodder School so I thought I'd do some more. These are Caran D'Ache marks on Sadie's old bologna paper spritzed with water...and some washi tape to add some interest. 

 

Finished Bird and an Art Day

I finished Bird #2 and then set up for the art day with my friend and her niece.  We had a great time pasting and blabbing. I really should plan more days like this.

I finished my Tiny Tattered Houses...it was hard to stop but I did it. I love them and have to remind myself that I did them in a workshop where the instructor was walking everyone through. I did put my own touches on them though.

Tiny Tattered Houses and a Poem

 I had my second shot of Covid vaccine yesterday and today, I was feeling a bit under the weather. I wrote my haiku...

...and I napped and I worked on my Tiny Tattered Houses and I napped some more. Then I worked a bit more. Now, I think I'll go back to bed.

And in between all this poetry, I signed up for an online workshop, Tiny Tattered Houses. I've really been inspired to jump back into my collage stuff. I've been watching the sessions and then catching up. Here's what I have so far....

I'm a first timer with the Gelli Plate and so far, I am loving it. It is definitely an example of how I work and work and work to get a result, and then find out they make something that does it much more easily.

Book Class!

I signed up for one of Katie Delay's book classes at  The Art Supply Depō  and I thought it was going to be a basic binding workshop. But we made accordion books and learned some pop up techniques. It was great fun! She is working on a Pop Up 2.0 class for us!

Encaustic Workshop

I love that I can play with encaustics every so often without buying my own supplies and making a big mess at home! Thank you, Art Supply Depō! Playing with hot wax and heat guns was a great way to spend a cold, windy Sunday. 

Glass Hearts

Because we can't get enough of them, we made glass hearts last Saturday at Gathered Art. I picked up our hearts today. Now, I want to get a spot in the heart workshop happening this Saturday.

Workshop: Encaustic Painting

Went to my favorite art supply store, the Art Supply Depō, for a workshop this afternoon. I had a great time trying encaustic painting for the first time. Can't wait to buff it finished. 

Glass Workshop

Forgot to post this in early February...We did a glass heart workshop at Gathered Glassblowing Studio. We had a great time and we ended up with these beautiful glass pieces....mine is the first on the right.

Star Book Workshop

Great way to spend a stormy afternoon! I made a star book today at a workshop at the Art Supply Depō.

Workshop: Accordion Book

I missed the flag book class because of traffic, but I made it to the accordion book class. I love using my own paste papers as covers; I will always think of Leigh when I use these papers and when I make books. I sure missed her at this workshop today.

Next up...star books. I've got two weeks to gather some images and text and more paste papers.

Second Round of Making: Washi Eggs

I missed out on a spot in the washi egg making class at the Art Supply Depō. As luck would have it, the teacher is a friend of mine and she invited me to make washi eggs at her house. I still have to varnish these...but I love them! Judy sent me home with enough leftovers for one more egg so I am getting my scissors and making one more today.

Two Days

Last night, I had a ball etching wine glasses...a simple technique that amazed me because in involves no sandblasting. I couldn't sleep last night thinking of the glass etching possibilities.  Today, after picking around online, I found that any craft store sells the supplies and a million  stencils...although I "freehanded" mine, it kind of made it a bit less amazing. Still, I do love the glasses I etched last night.

 

Today, after posting some silly quote about mistakes and creativity on my Spare Parts Facebook page, I worked on my latest pill box. I nearly destroyed it with multiple attempts to set rivets. I finally put down my tools and called it a day.

Ink on Tile

I spent an evening with friends painting on tiles with ink at Pam's Corner. This was great fun and almost impossible not to make something cool.
