Back to Fodder School

I watched the Stephanie Lee Fodder School June lessons; yes, I'm very late to the party. And I started by playing with the plaster mixture on a variety of papers. 

                   

A few days later, while gardening,  I decided I needed some small supports for the plants I put in our big pots. So I made some from sticks I picked up in the yard. 

 

Tonight, I made some marks on my plastered papers.

 

And More Fodder and Yet Another Blizzard Book

I watched the last three lessons and I played with gelliplate confetti fodder, painted and stenciled on transparencies,  and stamped on brayered papers. I have a pile of candy colored fodder and I'm ready for the July project.

 

 

I also made another book. This one was from the long scrap of wrapping paper left from the last book and measures about 2.5" by 3.5". It has double the number of pages because of the lengthe of the paper. I cut cards from some of my double sided 100 Day Project papers from 2022. 

 

A Few More Days

I've passed the half way point of the 100 Day Project.

 

I bought a bottle of wine a while back, chosen because I liked the label, and the cork made me just as happy. So I made myself a necklace. 

 

And today, after reading that 60s fashion icon Mary Quant had passed away, I made a stamp in her flower power honor. Rest in peace, Mary Quant.

Day 49/100 and April Fodder School

I watched the first few lessons of April Fodder School,with new instructor, Sarah Gardner.  So I spent some time last night scraping paint. 

And I scraped paint on an envelope for Day 49/100. Fodder School made me realize how much I like my homemade stamps.

 

 

 

Lots of Bits and Backgrounds

Since we were supposed to be in the midst of a blizzard (that we are still waiting for), I holed up in the house...behaving as though we were actually experiencing the blizzard. I watched all of the February 1st lessons and then I used every technique we were shown. I had pages and pages of stuff to "fussy cut".

So while Bill was napping, I sat in front of the TV and cut and cut and cut...

 

I also advanced to the instructions for backgrounds and played with those, including creating a couple of scrap pages to be cut later as more background.  

 

I'm still waiting for the blizzard.

Finished Journal and Banana Nut Bread

I finished my junk journal.  I love it so much that I can't stop looking at it. 

 

And, since I took the old bananas home from our movie night last night, I made banana nut bread. Believe it or not, this may be a first for me.

 

Junk Journal Work

I've got the cover done and I sewed the signatures into the gatefold cover. Now, I am working on the individual pages.  I'm incorporating a little from each month of Fodder School classes. I love this so far.

Mark Making...on Paper and Glass

I started making marks on my stack of papers...using junk I scrounged up. I need to do more scrounging.

I also bought some wine glasses and etched them; they are going into a basket to be auctioned at a fundraiser for the Historic Vistula Foundation. Now,  I want to keep them for myself. 

And I dyed more fabric in tea but the pieces are hanging on the line in the basement to dry and I'm too lazy to go down there to get a photo.

More Tags

I'm using up odd bits and pieces to play with tags. And I used a scrap of that printing rubber stuff to carve a heart stamp.

Finished Book..on to the Next Project

I finished a third book, and this morning I started painting more pages. I'm able to justify this as I am using some of DeeDee's fodder techniques...the stamping and the image transfers.

But then I watched the videos for our November project. Not entirely sure I wanted to do this one...but then I decided to give it a try. So, reluctantly,  I set my painted papers aside and began the work on my November assignment. Having never touched gold leaf before, I think I'm doing fairly well. But it's definitely a struggle. Maybe I should watch DeeDee's instructions one more time.

Bird Stamp and a Spicy Kani Salad

I'm working on a bird stamp. This rubber stuff sure cuts much more easily than my old battleship linoleum.

And because I was craving a spicy kani salad, and I had the ingredients,  I attempted to make one instead of trying to talk Bill into a sushi place. Although my knife skills are sorely lacking, it came out pretty tasty.

More Carving

I cut a ladder into my old battleship linoleum and then stamped it using an ink pad and some acrylic.  

I'm having more fun with this than I thought I would. And I'm making a huge mess.

Carving Stamps and Some Seed Packets

Yesterday,  I headed to the basement to retrieve my old carving tools. Not only did I manage to locate them after at least two decades, but I found a decent sized scrap of linoleum.  So I actually did some carving and stamping...the first steps in my November instructions for Fodder School. Since I had no interest in stamping leaves and flowers, I just kind of played with it. I used stamping ink and I used watery acrylic paint. I am loving the results. And I am also loving the fact that I can play with printmaking, abandoning some of the purist printmaking techniques that I learned and loved more than 20 years ago. I can do some printmaking without oil based inks, multiple solvents, and a press and still like the results.

 

 

 

Today,  I made some more seed packets....

 

 

 

Now, I'm off to watch some more Fodder School instructions....
