Election Anxiety Projects

I, like millions of others, can hardly wait for this election to be over. I am suffering from the worst election anxiety I've ever experienced.

I started rolling paper beads to deal with it. By Tuesday, I should have quite a stash.

This morning, after rolling beads, I thought I'd try to replicate the scrappy scarf I bought last year at an art fair but with my own scraps of black, white, and cream fabrics. I'm pretty pleased with it!

What I Did Today

I was busy doing a lot of nothing today but I did manage to make a few things. My dad needed a card to send to his former housekeeper. Now that he is in assisted, living he is no longer one of her clients. He wanted me to pick up a card so he could send her something. So I finished one I had already started...much easier than going to the store to get one.

In between doing nothing, I slipped into my room to doodle on my fabric fodder.

And since I had some paint out on the table, I added some stencils to this kind of ugly shirt that I'm attempting to transform into something I actually like.

Show....And Then Back To Work

We did the first ever Point Place Art Walk...braved a chilly and windy and damp October Saturday...never made it to the workbench after that.

Today, I made another necklace, as the one I set aside is buried in the show boxes. Rather than begin a treasure hunt for it, I made another similar.

And then I replaced the boring white buttons on my old sweater with cool purple ones...it's like having a new sweater.

Yes to the Dress?

Still toying with the idea of adding fabric to a top to create a dress, I've spent a lot of time admiring the swatches I ordered from NY Fashion Center Fabrics.  (They have linen in three weights and tons of gorgeous colors...I've never seen a selection like this.)  Today, I made a plan...before I will allow myself to spent money on fabric,  I should have a plan...especially since I've not bothered to look for a pattern. (Who needs a pattern?!?!)

Last Two Evenings

After watching the last season of Project Runway, I have been losing sleep thinking about what I can do to my own clothes. I was in love with a dress that one of the designers did and thought I could work out something similar for myself, using some tops I already own.

I've gone as far as to order swatches of linen, but I'm not so sure about my sewing skills.

Tonight, my brain was feeling a little fried from the day at work. I'm surprised that I managed to make anything at all, but I made this necklace.

Another "True Life" Image

There are multiple transfers on this image, some more successful than others. I need more practice with them, as I like the effect, but it's kind of a crap shoot when I put one into the mix. But if I keep trying, maybe I'll get over my fear of image transfer failure.

Dream Bras on Day 100!

I questioned this one...for whatever reasons,  and then reminded myself that this is my project,  and if I want to spend day after day drawing bras...I can.  Hurray!  (I think that might be a breakthrough...however small.)  And this is day 100!  I wasn't sure I could do this for even two weeks and now I have reached 100 days in a row!

Leopard Bras

The small collage with the blouse and the bra was done on Friday night,  after work...I know! Yikes!  I actually made something instead of moping about the week I had!

Friday Night

And since drawing the bra onto leopard paper proved to be so much fun...I did another leopard bra today,  on a postcard.  Now I have to go cook something.

Missing Bra Revisited

I really liked the Missing Bra postcard, so today, I did a larger version...

A Little More Room

Yesterday I made a postcard.

Yesterday

But today, because I have been feeling a little limited by my 6" by 4" surface,  I actually expanded...just a little.  (...can't move too quickly lest I become intimidated and discouraged!)   I masked off 8" by 5.5" and went with what I knew.  (I know,  a bit of a cop out,  but I need to move slowly.)

Map Bra

Months ago,  I was at Hollanders in Ann Arbor and came home with beautiful papers and have done nothing but look at them since.  They are just too special to touch.  I finally started using the map paper.  (I had to console myself by promising a Hollanders run to get another.)  So, for the last few days, I've used little bits of my precious map paper.  (I am even in love with the texture of it!)

Map Bra

I haven't mailed any cards lately;  maybe tomorrow should be the day.

Almost Didn't Make It

I am suffering through my cold symptoms today and the very last thing I felt like doing was making something.  I remember,  when I first started, I said I would consider even a scribble in my sketchbook something.  I also thought I could take a photograph.

Tonight was that night,  but I couldn't throw in the towel and doodle.  I photographed some old jars of ball bearings,  but none were good enough to stand alone as my thing for the day.  I had to do SOMETHING.  (I think I need to save the sketchbook drawings for an emergency....for when I REALLY can't do something.)

So I sat, sniffling at my work table and although it's...well, I guess I just had vitamin C in my thoughts...vitamin C and the missing bra.

Another Bird and the Missing Bra

Last night, I was exhausted and completely without inspiration.  Making something was so much effort. Again, I reminded myself that if I'm making something every day, I cannot expect to LOVE every single thing.

Monday...#59

Tonight, I had a plan to keep it short and simple.  But, I ended up having a ball with it and couldn't stop. I finished feeling like I should've stopped sooner,  but when I came back after taking a "Peter Elloian  Break"  from it,  I was very satisfied...I love it when I can see the fun I had doing it.

Even More Whiny

I came home tired and even more whiny than last night.  Bill said, "Are you just going to skip it tonight?   I didn't skip it.   I headed up to my work table.  I think, even though I'm just making postcards,  that this is the most productive I've been in months....YEARS!

Painting clothes onto these vintage nudes is turning out to be too much fun.

And I need to remind myself that I am supposed to be mailing these out to friends and acquaintances.  So far,  I've mailed three,  and I've given  three to my dad ( like pulling teeth) to mail....not so good. Tomorrow, I will mail three cards....I swear!

Number 32

I have some vintage nude images, and although I like them in the work of others,  I think they look awkward in my own stuff.  But I still love them,  so I used one today. I had fun with this one.  Hopefully I can twist some more of my little bits of anxiety into something that makes me happy.
