I'm in a mixed media group on Facebook and someone posted a beautiful piece. When asked about how it was done she mentioned momigami. Momigami is "kneaded paper" in Japanese. Here's the real way to do it...Momigami tutorial.
But I just spend the last hour crumpling a few pieces of paper over and over. I love the look of crumpled paper. My trial pieces are now under a pile of books to flatten. I love the way way they look and feel...not sure I need to flatten them.
