I added a link and I experimented with some smaller wire links to make the connection. This works, but the necklace needs a few more smaller links before it stops behind the neck. Right now, the black gear thing ends up behind my head, so not only can it not be seen, but it's not comfortable there.
Flattening wire into the chain links involves the chasing hammer, and any day that I have a reason to use this cool hammer is a good day.
