Gold Leaf

One of our November fodder pieces involves pre-cut chip board shapes and gold leaf. First of all, I blanched at the idea of buying pre-cut shapes but after watching the instruction video, I knew I did not want to cut thick chip board into small, intricate shapes...I didn't even want to attempt to cut simple shapes. So I bought some.

When I sat down at my work table, I thought this was going to be an easy project. I've never worked with gold leaf. Needless to say, it didn't go well. I had gold leaf literally dissolving on my fingers which were sticky with gel medium. I thought I had a system with multiple finger tips for spreading, applying and patting...turns out I didn't.

Then, I had visions of adding some of this shimmering gold to my painted pages...kind of a vein of precious metal running through the ground. That didn't go so well either...unless it looks better when the gel medium dries.

One can only hope.
